The project comprised the replacement of the Gordan Street Bridge over Jordan Creek in the City of Allentown. A 120-foot span bridge supported on integral abutments behind the existing abutments replaced the existing 84-foot single-span bridge. This project was unique because it included a vehicular traffic detour during the construction of the bridge but maintained pedestrian traffic through a staged construction plan.
In addition to the structure and roadway approaches, the project included utility relocations, which included water line and sanitary sewer improvements.
RIG Consulting Inc. was selected as the prime consultant for the agreement, which was designated a Small Business Enterprise (SBE) set-aside. This program requires the PennDOT Bureau of Equal Opportunity designated SBE firm to perform at least 50% of the contracted work. RIG provided Construction Inspection Services on this part of the agreement through a Transportation Construction Manager, Transportation Construction Supervisor and Construction Inspector. Inspection and documentation services included clearing and grubbing, E&S control, earthwork, removal of contaminated soil, installation of drainage pipe, D-W end walls, manholes, utility relocation, and MPT.
